Hidden talents
I think I found a hidden talent. Just yesterday, I was helping a colleague beautify the portrait of her hubby. I wasn't expecting any reaction. But when she saw the improvements I made to it, she burst out in laughter of joy and almost fell down. I think I should really hone my talents in portrait drawing. Perhaps one day I'll be able to do something like a Mona Lisa and hit it big time!
MMORPG
Haven't really tried an MMORPG b4 so I'm starting with Cabal. Saw my landlords son focused on a hack and slash that looked a little like Diablo, so I ended up loaning the disc from him (yep saved me the trouble of downloading it) and getting myself registered with Asiasoft. Its free though, so I guess I will be spending some nights trying out this new RPG.
Yawn..
Was dead tired today. Woke up late. Rushed to work. Rushed breakfast and then headed for a meeting. Finished the meeting. Rushed lunch. Went back to office. Drove to next meeting place. Finished meeting. Drive back to office. Did claims. Drive to fetch wife. Go dinner. Fetch wife home. Drive back to office. Meet friends at Brewerks. Drive back home. Phew! It's 12am. I'm gonna drop flat on the bed after typing this!!!

Aarrrgghhh.. another workgroup meeting.. and on a Friday afternoon! Why must these guys arrange such meetings so late on a Friday afternoon? And Friday is dress down day... not office wear day!!! aaarrrgghh..

Man, I just love the taste of sea prawns with mustard at La Petite! Yumm.. tastes soooo good. My other half had the ravioli with prawns and foei gras. Good thing for me (not for my cholesterol levels), she doesn't fancy the foei gras, so I had sea prawns with foei gras.... hehehe.

There is this new gantry on Upper Bukit Timah, which makes it 3 gantries that I have to pass through every morning. Already, it is bad enough that the two gantries cost $0.50 and $2.50, now they add another $1.00 gantry making it $4 each morning!! This is worse than daylight robbery. Which person on earth don't have to go to work? U mean everyone has to make it to the office as early as 7am when office hours start at 8.30? So whats the use of setting up gantries when traffic is still just as heavy, or heavier because COE's keep being released? And if the traffic persists, are we supposed to pay extra ERP charges again? #^@^$@#%#^@^$#%#$*#@
Point to ponder...
We were having lunch in a group I that I normally don't hang out with after going out for some work. I asked a colleague which branch of the organisation she preferred, since she'd already been rotated around 3 departments. She said something on the line of "On what conditions are you referring to? Where u get to drink tea a lot, or where you learn a lot? Where no one bothers you, where your superior controls everything you do, or where there is some control on what you do?"
At a certain level, we do wish that the things we do are relevant to our fields. By doing things that we are familiar with, and learning through this process, somehow, I guess some satisfaction is derived from knowing that you are doing something relevant. On another level, everyone needs some level of freedom to do the things they need to do. So where would you draw the line? Do you choose an environment where you have freedom, but wont be doing something relevant to your career, or would you choose an environment where you would be doing something relevant but would expect control and less freedom? I guess it all boils down to what's important to you.
At a certain level, we do wish that the things we do are relevant to our fields. Memories of Nobody
Was looking for Diamond Dust Rebellion, when I came across Memories of Nobody. Never liked watching anime movies built up from a series, cos they always seem like a substandard version of the series.But I have to say that its not too bad. Senna is quite a memorable character albeit a thin plot and short storyline. And watching the Shinigami unleash their Bankais one at a time feels like watching 20 Bleach episodes all at once.
But I do somehow feel sorry for Rukia and Inoue.
Dream
Had 2 dreams yesterday. Never ever had dreams like this before. I dreamt on two scenarios that I had murdered someone. Both times no one I knew. Both times at places which I don't know. Similarities was that I didn't intend to commit murder, but it happened anyway.I woke up finding it really strange. I remembered reading somewhere, that dreams represent things that are totally different from what you dreamt of. I remember dreaming of a circus in chaos during my STP or college days and reading somewhere that it signified that my life was out of control.
Found an interpretation off the net:
To dream that you have committed a murder, indicates that you are putting an end to an old habit and your former ways of thinking. This could also mean an end to an addiction. Alternatively, you may have some repressed aggression or rage at yourself or at others.
To dream that you witness a murder, indicates deep-seated anger towards somebody. Consider how the victim represents aspects of yourself that you want to destroy or eliminate.
To dream that you are murdered, suggests that some important and significant relationship has been severed and you are trying to disconnect yourself from your emotions. It also represents your unused talents.
Perhaps it was the end of a long holiday, perhaps the end of the study trip at UK or perhaps even the end of being contented at work. Or perhaps I do have evil tendencies that include murdering people I don't know.. muahahaha. Better not make me angry and stay clear from me. Hehe.
I've never been a believer in dreams or its interpretations, so I'll leave it as just another dream.
Honesty Revisited
Went out with a couple of colleagues to have tea. When we were about to return, two of the older folks, me and an aunty, decided to ta pao. So I had a tea, while aunty chose a teh halia. When we got back, I accidently had both cups mixed. Aunty, not even smelling the tea before she drank it, drank my tea. Aunty then told me 'its ok'.Later, while I was typing away on my pc, I saw a very sheepish aunty eyeing my teh halia. So i offered the aunty both the tea and the teh halia. 2 mins later, aunty again sheepishly look paiseh for drinking 2 tea and bluff me she wan to go out buy stuff suen pian buy one teh for me. So I look at aunty so old so poor thing, decide to follow aunty go ta pao.
We go to the lift, and of all people, the head of the company is in it!! Aunty look at the head and said "U know why we are here? He mixed our drinks, I drank both and now we are going down to buy him a drink". My god. Almost died there. Aunty is aunty. So dem aunty. Head of company become dem blur. End up I think he dunno wat to say anymore.
Next time remind me not to give people my swapped teh halia. Dangerous. And hazardous to career.
London, British Museum, Windsor Castle, Stontonehenge and the Roman Bath
Study trip over!!! Tour is in!!!
Day 1 - Don't really have much time to blog, so I'll make it real quick. Started off with a stroll around the streets of London, looking at the London Eye, Big Ben, River Thames etc.
Spent half a day in the British Museum, looking at Egyptian Mummies, Assyrian Lion Hunting, etc.
Day 2 - Took an Evan Evans Tour to see Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and the Roman Baths.
Day 3 - We went to Amsterdam for a canal cruise followed by dinner at a floating restaurant and a tour of the red light district.
Day 4 - Travelled from Amsterdam to Colonge to take a look at the Colonge Cathedral. Went for a Rhine Cruise and then headed to Mannheim where we will be putting up for the night.
Day 5 will be in Lucerne... from Mannheim to Heidelberg to Blackforest to Rhine Falls..

Swollen lips..
Was having a fever during the weekend. Then last night, when I woke up, I realised that the left side of my lip was swollen. No, I'm not putting a pic of myself here, but the picture of Tony Leung in The Eagle Shooting Heroes gives u the idea of what swollen lips look like. Went to the doctor and got some antihistamine. Probably something related to an allergy.No worries though, its not that obvious and swollen lips never stopped a person from going to work. You just have to be ok with looking like you're biting a hotdog the entire day.
Is there a terrorist in my neighbourhood??
Was on my way home, when I noticed that the road turning in to my rented place (Stagmont Ring Road) was blocked off by policemen. If you've followed the news, this is probably one of those operations to track down the terrorist who escaped from a detention center. I mean, its bad enough that we get traffic jams from tons of police cars parked along Bukit Timah Road in the morning on the way to work. They could be a little more considerate and park at the side roads, rather than clog up Bukit Timah Road by occupying one lane. At night, when you're tired and want a good nights rest, they block off the entrance to your home. Had to make a big round past the other side of Choa Chu Kang Link through Sungei Kadut Drive leading to Choa Chu Kang North 6 and then 5 just to get back to the other side of the road block. Doesn't really make sense closing one side of the road when he can escape by the other side that doesn't have a road block rite? Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely a supporter of national security and I do hope they get that terrorist soon, but they could at least be a little more considerate.And oh ya.. I'm checking my car for unwanted sleeping objects, just in case a tired terrorist decides to sleep in my car.
It's travel time again!!
It's like a celebration. Each year, tons of people wake up early, drive to the EXPO, grab a bite, get into the queue...just to get the latest bargains for travelling. Yep, we went to NATAS 08 on a Saturday morning. Only this time, we went a little late. No point joining the crowd, the booths won't move anywhere anyway. So we got down at about 10am, had a nice breakfast, then walked over to the fair. The queue was still pretty long, but we got in quite soon after we started queueing. One thing we noticed was that we really didn't bother to find out where each booth was or which credit card had the best deals. Went over to Dynasty for an enquiry and then CTC to finally book the tour we were looking for. As for lucky draws, we were hoping that lady luck would bring us that PS3. We ended up with something of equal value.. 2 water tumblers and a $5 voucher. (Don't even think of it...I'm not exchanging a PS3 with another set of those). We'll at least we had better luck at the Popular Bookfair.
I'm getting old..
Had a trip briefing to the delegates heading to UK on Friday. I was requested to brief the group on the itenary...on who we were meeting and the purpose of our meetings. Half way through the briefing, a real estate developer raised his voice and made a comment, "Why aren't there any developers in the itenary? We are here because we are told there will be developers we are visiting. Why don't have?" His hostility caught me by surprise. Years back I'd probably have a shield and armour ready in defence. I guess I really am getting a little older and lethargy is creeping up. So much so that I no longer even want to defend. The best retort that came out of my mouth was "Can u then recommend an organisation we can visit? I can't think of any". He continued his motor mouth, thinking that he was on a roll. The chairperson was reluctant to speak looking at the hostility shown, but spoke up anyway. "With all due fairness, the programme was circulated a long while ago. And no comments were received." Last minute and he wants a miracle? Ask him to arrange lor. Sigh. I am getting old.

Botanic Gardens..
Last time I went there was for a meeting with NParks for a bridge we were planning to construct. I always thought that the people in NParks were really lucky. When they feel a bit stressed, they look out and there is lush greenery, tons of trees and grass to look at, not to mention botanic gardens and a cafe just outside their office.
I remember applying for a job a few years back. I sent out 3 resumes and one was for NParks. Was envisioning life as a Park Ranger with my colleague. "Hmm.. what shall we do today?" "I think we should look at a tree" "Yes, see whether the tree today got sick a not"... hahahahaha

T-Shirt Saga 2: Wetwibution
Some time back, I got a pink shirt for a friend's birthday. As a sign of appreciation, he wore it to work and on some other occassions.Months later, its retribution. This time, another friend gave me a pink polo T. Err. I am a black, blue and white kinda guy. But seeing that he took the trouble to get it, I decided to wear it for a day.
Got to the office and it seemed that no one noticed... or at least they were pretending they didn't. Then walked to my cubicle and the first comment I had from a friend was "You look metrosexual.... no thats good... you look gay". You'd think that a pink polo T is really nothing, everyone (minus me) wears it once in a while rite? But nooooooo... it seems that I'm not the only one that doesn't think pink should be worn by guys. Oh well, if I drew such a huge reaction wearing a white shirt, how much less can I expect wearing a pink polo T?
T-Shirt Saga 1: The Wempire Stwikes Bwite
Got up in the morning and prepared for work. After a nice bath, I went to my wardrobe and realised that I forgot to have my laundry done this week! Rummaging through the shirts I have, the only one presentable was a white shirt I bought at Expo for $9.90. So thats what I wore to work.
As I got in the office, my friends were as usual staring at their pcs. I told them it was time for breakfast and two of my friends looked shocked when they saw me. One went "Why did you wear so nice?" and another said "You going for ROM or proposal isit?" You'd think that they have never seen anyone wearing a white shirt to the office. I explained that I got no more clothes to wear, then went off to the other side of the office to look for someone else. When I got there, another friend exclaimed "You look very clean" and "You're already so fair, still wear white". Perhaps the most flattering comment that day was "You look good in white".
I got in the lift to go for some tea, then saw another friend who was heading down. He said "Aiyo, why you wear so Ah Pek". Hahahaha... somehow, his answer seemed refreshing as it was a opposing opinion.

Happy Chinese New Year!!!!
Back in KL for new year. It's the first day of the chinese calendar, and already I'm feeling a little lethargic from all the visiting and smiling. Its feels good though seeing my father and family members after such a long time. Pity though my cousin brother is in Muar with his in-laws, and I wont be able to see him or his spouse and child this new year.
Got a whole load of ang pows from family members, a stack thicker than my wallet. Market price for ang pow fillings seem to have dropped from $50 to $10, probably due to negative sentiments of the upcoming recession. Current count for ang pow collection have passed the $1000 mark, though I've only visited half the family. Heee.
Also, spent half the day on the bus though it was new years eve and also the day of my birth. Wanted to post the gifts and wishes I received from the nicest people in the world. But I am using my cousin sister's com and I don't have an erricson cable to transfer the phone pics. To those that remembered, thank you so so very much. It's really touching to know that there are people that actually remember insignificant me.

Well, the title says it all...today is just one of those days!
- Woke up early only to find that the toilet door is locked by my floor mate
- Searched for hours for my lost ID card only to find it in car
- Drove to the small alley leading to the carpark only to find a cab blocking the entrance
- Drive down to the carpark only to find someone parking slower than an 80 yr old person running a marathon
- Walked to work only to be blocked multiple times by tons of people seemingly to be going in the opposite direction
- Spoke to a colleague on what the boss wants only to find out from that colleague that the boss changed his mind the previous night
- Ordered a latte only to remember I had some indigestion the previous day
- Asked to arrange for a farewell only to find out that the person leaving will not be available
- Borrowed a camera only to find out that those to be video'ed are not around
- Worked on a clip only to find out that I forgot to save it after it hung
- Drove home only to find the parking lot I park in 200m away from the house has been taken

A day at work..
Early in the morning, and my boss was moving around the office. I caught him and asked him a question for 2 seconds, "You going?" and his response was "2 seconds up". A while later, he called me to his room, "Come, come", and we started a conversation. We're going on a trip to UK but there seems to be so much uncertainty that up till the last moment, he doesn't even know if he's going. So we had this conversation on who should attend and what needs to be done. We finished the conversation with him saying "Now you're updated ah". I left the room and an inquisitive colleague spent the next 3 hours trying to find out what we spoke about or if I had resigned.
At noon, most of the guys went missing.. some went to the doc, some went for meetings and some others went AWOL. Ended up spending lunch hour at Starbucks. Its a blessing that I bought that book. Had a nice cup of latte and an almond butter cake while I caught up with some reading. I'm at Chapter 4. My reading speed has severly deterioriated, possibly due to lack of sleep or just pure lethargy. But its nice enjoying a book at a comfortable pace, though 'The Catcher in the Rye' is perhaps not the most interesting of reads.
Went back and caught up with a colleague whose last day at work was today. It just seems nice, that people are doing things they want to, rather than being constrained in an environment where you hardly know what you're doing or where you're going to. Its also nice just having casual banter once in a while. Its a refreshing change to overdose crapping or overtly serious discussions.

There's a fly in my orange juice..
Went out for a cup of coffee with some colleagues. One of them ordered orange juice while the other two of us had coffee. Half way through our tea break, the colleague who had orange juice raised his voice and blurted out that "There is a fly in my orange juice!". Well, considering that he had completely finished the juice, there seemed to be little use in complaining.That didn't stop my colleague. He stood up, went to the counter, and demanded that they give him another cup of orange juice. Well, they did, but we did feel a little shy sitting there while he proudly enjoyed that free cup of juice.
