Crane erection...

We were asked by the boss to take a look at a tower crane erection nearby... took a long long time for them to raise one item up by mobile crane... and ended up watching only a wire rope drum being hoisted up...

Hmm...

Went for an outing, and it was like another round of self realisation...

I concluded that:
a) I know nuts about shipping, finance, what was in the newpapers, and is that true?
b) I suck at remembering people.. I can sit beside someone I met before, had lunch with, and have less of an idea which company he came from and what he has done than that of the waiter serving us. Ya, I know, that's bad, both socially and for work.
c) I have no idea why they dig under the road in front of a condo to depths beyond imagination.. vent shaft? mrt access? staircase? open cut (nah, its a tunnel underneath)... god, ran out of guesses...
d) I can be really dense sometimes. I was worried that a toilet I went to, which had a laterine and a cubicle, was a joint toilet. U know, those where men and women can use together. Then, realised that the ladies was a few metres away from the gents after I had finished.

Tourists...

Normally, we see china tourists being brought in by bus to a shop probably selling "Singapore" watches and chocolates and fruit. Today, while drinking coffee, we saw a whole group of monks brought in by the tour bus to the same shop. No pun intended, monks and priests also need a break sometimes.

Breakout 2010..

Went to see Breakout 2010 at the Esplanade. Not bad at all, worth catching. Though it'd be one of those literature type, but ended up was a really good comedy... heh..

Warding Evil...

There was a meeting, followed by a request by the big boss to get fatality rates down.

As an immediate response, some staff from another office sent this painting of "Zhong Kui", a ghost busting deity, to his office. The painting was then hung at the meeting room directly beside the big boss room, to ward off evil. No pun intended. And I'm sure their intentions were pure, but it was kinda funny that it was placed there.

On a lighter note, I got my belated belated birthday present from a buddy of mine. Much much better than the Pink Polo T's they keep buying that I don't wear. Yes 'Pink'... ewwuuggh..

Haeundae

Was transitting at San Fransisco, when the news showed that Hawaii was about to have a tsunami.... Was just watching the movie Haeundae on the plane... so, was a bit worried that something like that would happen.... this is a youtube clip from the movie...

We sat there for a while, waiting for boarding.. all the while observing the tv screen for that tidal wave. After like 30 minutes from the time they said the wave will come in 4 minutes, it was clear that no wave was coming...

Boston - Legal

Last week, we got our selves enrolled. flew 26.6hrs, got to a hotel, joined a course and spent 5 days attending a Harvard school course. The most immemorable experience, if there is even such a word, would be the flight duration, taking us through check in counters, security points, immigrations, up a plane, down a plane, up a plane, down a plane, and up a plane again, walking from one terminal to another. If stopping over at Hong Kong and San Fransisco was not enough, going through security at Singapore, Hong Kong, San Fran and Boston twice each journey was enough to convince me that I never want to visit the United States again.

Oh well, Boston wasn't all bad. Minus the freezingly uncomfortable weather, the seemingly unfriendly people, and the overwhelming Jamaican cab drivers (I'm guessing they are Jamaican from the accent), things seem to be ok. Boston, I heard, is popular for their seafood cuisine and I was told not to miss out on the lobster and clam chowder. We searched high and low for a place to have good cheap lobster, but ended up feel cold and beaten. Taking shelter in Quincy Market, we finally found cheap lobster in the most unlikely place we would think of.

So, here we are, in this foreign country, pretending to be young students, and dreading the cold and freezing weather every dinner. Transport from the hotel to the training location is very much provided, so all we needed to do was make our own arrangements for site seeing after each day, but even that, seemed to be an arduous uphill task for us each day. We passed each day rushing out for food, a little shopping, braving the rain and finally going back to the comfort of our rooms. The hotel was a 3 star hotel, with all the ameneties and a big enough bed to make me feel that staying there was almost worth it. Almost.

Between those few days, other than that unforgetable lobster and clam chowder, we had....

.....Pizza

.....Subway

..... Food court food

..... and some Indian Food (whisper: 'sponsored by the boss')

And of course, while we were there, we did quite a bit of work.... not just shop and eat. To name just a few, we....

.....passed through Harvard Park and admired John Howard's statue

.....looked at the world's first calculator

.....visited a scientific safety institute

.....and tried their tram system.

And oh...did I mention? Adam Sandler was one of our lecturers!!

Ok, for the rest of the not so interesting working pics, I'll leave it for the office presentations...

So, that's it for Boston. Do ask me if you're interested to know about the lady lecturers from china, the guy sitting next to me on the plane, the cab drivers, or just anything else u wanna know about Boston.. Cheers!! and have a good night! ;)
