Point to ponder..

Happiness is as a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but which if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.

Short story... totally 100% fictional..

In jungle x, there lived an elephant. This elephant, unlike others, really had an editic memory. He loved bambis and never forgot a thing. After being in the jungle for a while, he became the elephant king.

One fine day, some monkeys enter the elephant's jungle. Being monkeys, they inherently exhibited monkey characteristics. One monkey moved from branch to branch. One monkey swing too hard and hurt his back. One monkey, the coolest one, went to the stream often, to feed on coffee beans. There were tons of other monkeys, like the incredible bungalow throwing monkey, the cheapo twistie loving monkey, the big shot stopping monkey, the watery eyed monkey etc. All in all, they had a good time in the jungle, not knowing that the jungle belonged to the elephant king.

In no time, the elephant king notices the monkeys. He didn't have an inherent liking of this species, as his jungle consisted of elite crocodiles, hyenas and hippos. Seeing that the monkeys portrayed a fun bunch to the rest of the jungle, the elephant king decided that some monkeys should be rewarded to show his graciousness. However, it was difficult to reward them substantially, as those within his circle of power might rebel. So, the elephant king decreed that a few monkeys should be given a gift, one that is hidden inside a banana peel.

The monkeys heard of the generosity of the elephant king and rejoiced silently. "Well this jungle isn't all too bad... don't u think?" said one monkey. "Maybe there are other jungles?" said the other. A third monkey appeared and said, "This jungle sucks. Some snake just coiled around my tree".

After a while, some gorillas appeared and carried two monkeys to the castle. In the castle, the monkeys were each given a banana peel with something inside. The first one said, "I think its a gold bar". The second one said,"It's light. Maybe its a diamond jewel". And they were piqued with curiosity. The elephant king appeared and was really happy that he had given them gifts. He hurriedly requested that the monkeys open the gifts. Slowly, the two monkeys opened their gift. The crowd of monkeys jumped around and tried to catch a glimpse of whats inside. "Is it a diamond? a gold bar? US dollars?" The crowd gasped as the gift was opened. One kid from the crowd shouted,
"OMG!! It's a !!!"

Detective Galileo..

Spent the whole day watching this.. already at episode 5/10..

Point to ponder..

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares. - Henri Nouwen

Born loser..again

I was going down to B1 from level 4 using the office lift.

I got in, pressed B1 and waited for the lift door to close. It closed, then opened again, and I was still at level 4.

I pressed the close door button once more. Again, it closed, then opened, and I was still at level 4.

I pressed the close door button again. And again, it closed, then opened, and I was still at level 4.

I got out of the lift and cursed $^%^$#%$^&%$.

It closed. And went straight down to B1.

Blur

Parked the car. Then detoured to get an umbrella as it was starting to rain. Went to the back of a black car and tried to open the boot, but could not find a keyhole at the usual place of the car boot. Looked again, and realised that I was standing behind a BMW...last time I remember, I drove a Vios, not a BM!...

Another Afternoon..

Had to get back home in the afternoon, cos the building maintenance was coming over to fix a wall crack and a waterless tap. So, after having hotdogs and icecream at Ikea, we headed home to watch "Don't mess with the Zohan" courtesy of a friend from the office. After that, it became pretty bored, and I ended up logging on to yahoo answers to see if I can get to level 2. No its not a facebook application. You just help others answer questions that they enquire.

It's surprising what people ask, and the genre I chose on a weekend was of course (NOOO not engineering or construction or safety) .....anime. Some questions are rather amusing and you'd be surprised what people ask on the net.

Some questions were like:
1. How did Sasuke Uchiha get so fast?
During the Chunin exam, Sasuke got fast enough to match Lee's speed without weights. How is this possible during one month, considering Sharingan cannot copy speed, as it's different than jutsus or taijutsu -- you can't COPY speed.
2. Which episode did kakashi try to teach naruto chidori?
3. Teen titans has been canceled for like ever but i don't get the last episode when Beast Boy tries to make Terra remember him what happens after that i don't get it also i know they might make an un animated movie of it but will the actual show ever return thanks.
4. Where's Sasuke Uchiha actually??? Can anyone tell me...

Best part was that I could answer them. Man, I have to start getting a life!!!

A minute away..

I got into the lift after work. Was feeling a little tired and lethargic. This guy with a green shirt and an extremely bubbly look came into the lift and saw a solemn face in the lift. The lift moved down and I pressed the wrong floor. I had to walk up to the next level. It took me another 1 minute or so to get to B1. I entered the car and drove out of the carpark. Just as I exit the carpark, I saw a blue car at 90 degrees blocking the whole road. Another car with the front busted, was still at the small storage lane. Ironically, as I looked on, I saw the same green shirt guy I met at the lift standing at the blue car holding his handphone. This time, he looked rather worried. Wasn't really in the mood to help, so I moved on to the next lane and drove off. Guess I should count my blessings. If I had not been tired and lethargic, I might've been involved in the accident!! Ironic isn't it?

Waaa piang!!

Was driving along Rochor Rd in the morning when I saw this. I thought "phew, lucky I'm not driving behind that thing"...The 1m by 1m concrete blocks are just sitting on top of that thing with 0 restraints. If it falls, there goes your car! (or if you're unlucky, there goes u!!!)
And guess what.... In the evening, I end up behind the same idiotic truck with even more concrete blocks!!

Annual Natas Visit..

This year, we didn't even have to queue to get in... things are really slowing down i guess..

The blogging eclipse...

A colleague once fessed up that he spent 2 hours of his time reading this blog. No he is not gay (to your dismay).. he is just a wierdo who likes to read everything at once, rather than visit the site to see if there are updates. That was like ages ago.

Just clicked on the counter out of the blue, and waaa..82!! Considering that there is only 17 visitors, this must be another anomaly! It can't be the same wierdo, cos he is at home lying flat on his back from carrying too many babies.

So I guess it will be a mystery. And seeing that this only happens once in a long long time, I shall now term this phenomenon as THE BLOGGING ECLIPSE!! Well, u can call it 'the blogging comet', or 'the blogging earthquake', or 'the comet earthquake meteor blog' for all I care. But I am calling it 'THE BLOGGING ECLIPSE'!!!! Wahahhahaa!! (So fast back to usual crappy self..hahaha)...

................................

Feel a lot of frustration, resentment and rejection. Don't know why I can't seem to keep everything in like I used to. Maybe I do too many stupid things, or maybe I'm becoming stupid. Feels tired just doing the things I do everyday. Maybe its just part of life, or maybe its just a rough spot. Always believe that once you hit rock bottom, you can only go up and things can only turn better. Well, I can convince a friend or two, but can't seem to convince myself. Maybe its about time to do something drastic or go somewhere else. Dem..I don't have any sleeping pills...

A letter...

Next Destination...

Going to visit Mordor, Edoras, and Fangorn Forest... where did I put my Legolas costume?!?

Wii: Cooking Mama..

For those who dun cook, this is a consolation... might be a good gift for the wife too...

Haha...

So old still got gift from buddy... haha...

Reckless..

Was driving along a road, pass a junction on green light. Out of nowhere, a kid on a bicycle shot past my car. In instinct, I jammed on the brakes and hit the horn, watching him fly pass. There was another car turning in from the slip road that barely missed him, and he passed the slip road and made turned to his right. The car probably heard the horn and slowed down a little.

It's not like he was in a hurry or something. He just went pass, raised his hand and leisurely rode on like nothing happened. Wonder why he was willing to risk his life just to save a few seconds. I don't know, but to me, that's just plain reckless.

Yawn...

Thought I could get some rest after a long week. Ended up cleaning the house instead, cause the house was getting dirty. Oh well, at least I got the balcony cleaned. Been wanting to do that for a while.

Sleepy and tired...

Was trying very hard to finish reading my book yesterday night.. Grandfather Gottlieb's 'Letters to Sam'... but only managed 20 pages before I lay asleep with the lights still on. It gets so tiring these days that I can't even manage finishing a book anymore.. or perhaps, my ability to read is slowing down as age takes over. Oh well, I'll try to finish it tonight, but expect that I'd doze off again. Had a long day today. Good gracious it's the weekend already.

Grandmother story...

Ok, this is a very bad attempt at humor... but what the heck.. its my blog lei... and it makes me feel a bit better...

----------------------------------------------

There was a clan meetup... and the venerable oak tree told of a prophecy that 5 arrows will be shot at our clansmen. As we anticipated the arrows, one flew out of the sky and hit an elf. Just as I was counting my luck, another 4 came out of the sky and aimed directly at me. I tried running, but got hit by 4 arrows. As I got hit, I mumbled "*&^%&$%#", then got back to my den.

The next day, as I was contemplating on how to deal with the 4 arrows, which were still stuck at my behind, a fifth one appears and hits me from below. I jumped and yelped...and then tried to pull out the arrow, but to no success, as the arrow was lodged deep underneath. Cursing my luck, I tried to chip on the arrow bit by bit, hoping it would come out sooner or later.

The following day, in the wee hours of morning, when the birds just started chirping, the venerable oak tree appeared and was carrying a big silvermane bow with an arrow. This arrow was a bit different. According to the oak tree, this arrow will negate another arrow that was shot at me before I got shot by the 4 arrows, leaving the wound there, but making the previous arrow unaccounted for. "The previous arrow will no longer be considered as an arrow" said the venerable oak tree. And then pulls out the bow and aims it at my behind. Getting used to the pain and believeing it's fated, I turned over and accepted the next arrow.

Just when I thought that it was the end of the arrows being shot, considering that my behind was only that big and could only accomodate a certain number of arrows, another arrow appears out of nowhere and plunges into the depths of whatever is left of my behind.

Feeling numb, but still needing to tend to the 7 arrows, I went to see a witchdoctor. The witchdoctor told me that it is normal to be shot by 7 arrows and to accept that the arrows will come out eventually, but will be replenished shortly afterwords, as part of the clan ritual. His last words of wisdom, before I left his hut, was "either go to another clan....or...increase the size of your behind!".

Gong Tau...

I:
a) Tapped my staff pass on the MRT station exit
b) Tapped my credit card on the office door access
c) Tapped my condo pass on the office door access
And just a while ago:
d) Tapped my staff pass at my condo door access.... again.

Think I better sleep earlier tonight.

Lyrics(English):
Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo, it's a fish kid
It came from the blue ocean
Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo,
She is a round bellied girl
Peta-peta pyon-pyon
How nice to have feet! I'll try to run!
Migi-migi-bun-bun
How nice to have hands! I'll try to hold hands with!

When I jump with her, my heart dances along
Paku-paku chu-gyu, paku-paku chu-gyu
I love her so much!

Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo, it's a fish kid in red
It came from the blue ocean
Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo,
She is a round bellied girl

Contentment...

I guess there's no contentment in being human... when we have too much to do, we sulk about it, complaining about how much we have been assigned, how hard things are to get done, why things always come to us... and then, when we have everything taken away from us, we sulk again... wondering why nothing important is assigned to us, wondering why there is no job satisfaction, whether we are sidelined or if our self worth is being questioned.
I guess its not that we are unhappy or unsatisfied, only that humans tend to want to express what they feel... the current stresses, the work loads, the milestones... just to let off some of our expressions of feeling burdened with work.. It's hard to be content at a workplace and even harder to be content when everything seems to be either too much or too little...
Haha...see...I'm whining too...

Crab..

Had tang hoon crab today... was quite dissapointing because the chef left out the black pepper from the black pepper tang hoon crab. Maybe they changed chef..

Year of the Ox...

It's my sister's year!! And ironically, the Zodiac doesn't seem to be good for Dragons. Career, Money, Friendship. Everything seems bleak, but at least Dragons will have good health this year.

Last year, the zodiac seemed to be good for everything except health. So, this year, I guess its time to capitalise on being healthier. I'm gonna take more vitamin c, exercise more regularly and cut down on my coffee intake.... (from 8 cups to 7 cups a day....wahahaha..) eh, for a start very good aredy la... Think I also should reduce some calories before cny, so that there is enough space in there to put in all the good food.... kekeke!! Anyone knows where to get a Pendant of the Taisui of 2009? The website say must put in wallet le.

So specific ah??

We were running through some British Standards for a code of practice we were reviewing. I was almost half asleep, when this one member passed a page of the BS code over. On one of the items of potential hazards, the code listed,

"booby traps" such as used syringes taped under banisters, on top of kitchen units and doors, etc. maliciously left to injure site personnel.

which got us wondering what actually happened over there.

Sleeping Sickness

"Sleeping sickness or human African trypanosomiasis is a parasitic disease of people and animals, caused by protozoa of species Trypanosoma brucei and transmitted by the tsetse fly. Besides confusion and reduced coordination, the sleep cycle is disturbed with bouts of fatigue punctuated with manic periods progressing to daytime slumber and nighttime insomnia." Source: Wiki

It's a Miracle!!

Got a haircut... plus washed the car.... need I say more?

Caffeine Poisoning..

Walked over to Liang Court after lunch and a colleague treated us to Vietnamese Coffee. Having taken coffee at the joints in Vietnam, was half expecting it to be mildly stronger than local coffee. Ends up, we took half an hour to finish up that half cup of coffee!! (And I had to add 3 packs of sugar and dilute it with water, just to make it drinkable!!) Considering that I take 8 cups of coffee a day, this is serious stuff man. I had XX 2... and they have like 6 levels of coffee. I can't imagine whats in XX 6... U'd probably be drinking acid...

New member..

This is the latest addition to my collection of dying plants.... hope what they say about these plants being hardy is true.

Bedridden...

Food poisoning.. Out for some time..

Yawn..

Tired... slept late the past few nights... I'm going to bed at 9pm tonight...

Gd nite!!

Muddled..

Was trying to tell a friend about the new car I just bought. While trying to explain that the COE was at a low, I excitedly mumbled "The ERP we got was quite low, cos we got the car at the next ERP bid". Scratching his head, my friend looked at me and said "COE isit, wat ERP got so expensive?"

In the evening, while talking about high salaried CEO's being able to afford luxury cars, again I mumbled, "Imagine if u r a COE and u earn like $30k a month, would u still be driving a Vios??"

Rats... I need speech theraphy..

Ponder...

Ever seen an embarassing moment and wonder what u would do if u were in it? Sometimes I really wonder if what I'm doing is the right thing.

So, lets just say, if you were to see a friend with 2 strands of hair sticking out his/her nose... would u:

a) crack a joke of it;
b) bring him/her to a corner and tell him/her; or
c) pretend u diden see it.

Or if u had body or mouth odour, would u:

a) Rather have ur friends pretend they don't know;
b) Have someone tell u asap so that u could do something about it; or
c) "If u r my friend, learn how to live with it!!"

I guess what u'd do and what u want people to do to u, if u were in that situation might differ. While ignorance is bliss, sometimes, I'd rather know it, feel embarassed and get it done with. Other times, I'd wish a small tsunami would sweep over, and everyone would concentrate on it and forget about the embarassing stuff. I guess its good to be able to laugh at yourself once in a while, but then again, once in a very very long while.

Blur....

Before getting the car, someone told me that the new Vios had a really loud engine sound. Got the car, and sure thing, there was this loud rumbling noise everytime I drove to about 80 - 100. It came to a point that the sound was really quite bad, and we even contemplated on getting sound proofing for the car. The auto gear comes in a kinda wierd shaped configuration with P, R, N, D-3, 2, L.

Then one fine day, I realised that D and 3 was actually 2 seperate gears, and u just switch between gears by shifting in from the left to the right and vice versa. Good thing I realised this in the first week of driving the new car, or else I'd be using 3rd gear whenever I use the car! Sure thing, the sound dissapeared after switching gears and we saved a couple of hundreds in sound proofing. Who designs such ^&%#%$# configurations anyway.

Owuwwwuu..

Just finished trekking up Bukit Timah Hill... might be doing this weekly for exercise.. well it's so near anyway..

Hooked on....
