My bugdie made lunch for all of us. I have to say, I was impressed. Back in our younger days, he could even hold a bag straight, much less win me in soul calibur, but now... he can cook!!

Really did outdo himself with the vegetarian meal he made us. Perhaps one day, he can have his own little restaurant and call it "Tai Kitchen" or "Deli Loong" or even "Restaurant Bugdie". I for one will at least visit it once. Haha.

There are just so many instances that I wished I could just tear myself into different clones and not let others be disappointed. A car, a gun and a some fun...

Was driving up a hill for a teambuilding session, right after we had kublai khan for lunch. I saw the sign turning into a carpark that we were heading to, and we barely missed it by a bit. I reversed the car on the slope, and just as I was doing that, the engine died. Gave me a shock when the car started moving downwards, and I had to jam the brakes and pull the hand-breaks together to make sure that the car doesn't slide further!! Each time I tried to start the engine, the car slid down, till it was about 1 inch from the vehicle impact guardrail on the roadside!! Two of the three colleagues that were with me got down the car, and other colleagues started to arrive. A few of them started holding on to the car, as I tried to shift the gear to drive once again. Phew! This time it worked! Gave everyone a fright there, and the car became a topic of conversation just before the teambuilding session went on.

Well, we did have a good time with the laser quest. Three missions, and we won all three! But its not really about winning, more about just getting to know each other better I guess. But it was just fun for a change. Spending ages fighting fire everyday is really just a bummer.

Can't believe it!! I have two gifts before Christmas, both are from different people and both are exactly the same thing!! Wonder why everyone thinks I need one. Maybe my current position really sucks. Or there are a lot of small people around me. Haha.

On a lighter note, a security aunty at the office guardpost who never spoke to me much walked towards us when we were standing at the corridor. Half expecting her to tell us to move aside and not block the corridor, she came over and asked me if I could help her buy breakfast!! To think that we never exchanged words before, I think I really got the "Me! me! Use me!" word written on my forehead. But ok la, helping people is a good thing. And the guards at the office (minus the two that always frown one) are quite nice.

Bought 30 small gifts for friends in the office, and you wont believe it... 30 also not enough!! And I only gave to those people that are closer to me or who work with me. At least I covered my closer friends. :)

And the proverbial christmas tree is up in our house!

Busy times again... have so much to do. Twisted my hand when we were climbing scaffolding, so cannot play basketball this week. Sob. Stayed in the office, and was the last one to leave for the past few days... just so many things to do, that I have hardly any time before the end of the day comes.

But its nice to get home and have a good rest after each day... watch tv or the anime I want, just sit around and laze a bit, or go get a cup of warm latte with ginger biscuits before calling it a day.

Stuck out my head again today... I realise I cannot stay quiet when I see something wrong. And I realise I cannot stand it when people who makes the things that are right turn wrong and just sit quiet and wait for others to clean their shit, even if it means pissing the top guys. Sigh. After our basketball session, we were all seated beside the court taking a break when Go-Liap told us about the story at marina kbox. Freaked us all out, as some of us do frequent kbox, but not the one he mentioned.
Managed to find the forum post here under the post by aviador.
Just before we all went back, a few of them decided to go to the opposite foodcourt for dinner/supper. I had dinner at home, and was giving a fren a lift to the MRT. So, we bid everyone farewell, and without thinking I mentioned that the 4 of them were going for supper. Then, everyone just got stunted and asked, "where got 4???" And they started counting again to make sure there was only 3 of them going for supper. Wahahaha!
Good thing I only sing k in the morning or afternoon. Hope I can sleep tonight. Hee.

Phuket - Naka Island..

Sometimes, trips are about balancing between sightseeing, shopping and just lazing around absorbing the sun rays and the sea breeze. Sometimes, you can't get all 3 elements in one trip. So, the best bet is to split them into parts, and enjoy each of them seperately. Look at the pictures and you'd know which one this is.

After resting for quite some time, you can really feel the resistance to wake up in the morning tomorrow and get your butt to work. Oh well, it was a good break, so I really shouldn't complain.

Don't know what better way to blog this, so I'll compare this with W Hotel which we went to not long ago.

Pros on Naka Island compared to W hotel resort at koh samui:
- The promotional price is cheaper (haha!!)
- The beach view is much better and you feel a lot closer to nature (you can see frogs in the sand, grasshoppers and chameleons on trees etc.)
- The room has a steam room!! Seldom see this included. (3-10mins max, but it's nice to just have one in the room u knoe.. )
- Layout of the room is better (TV still not in centre of the bed, but overall still better)
- More tranquil and peaceful (you enter a room of jazz music rather than pop)

Pros on W hotel vs Naka Island
- Coffee maker with free capsules!! (Ok I am biased, cos I am a coffee addict..)
- Better food. W hotel brags that they will make u anything u order, but i diden try ordering penang fried kuey tiao cos i diden want to be the one to ruin their reputation.
- Free flow of ice cream and drinks (Goddammit, the fridge with goodies is just outside the room!! And they replenish it constantly)
- Less mosquitoes

Ok I better not continue... only thing left to say is that W hotel is more lavish but Naka does give a better feel. Yawn, no more brain cells to blog, and I have to go out to spinelli's for coffee now. Heh.. Good nite!!

Went to McCafe and saw this little girl telling her mom she got a bear drawn on her drink. I was queueing for my latte then, and involuntarily let out a big "Wahhh!" I guess the Indian lady behind the counter heard. A few weeks later, when I was ordering cappucino, the lady told me, "Haha today got time" and started etching a chocolate bear face on my latte! Been pretty busy in the office recently. Managed to get a report for the staff up, a report for the director with warnings done, a report on a recent exercise done, a response to a recent enforcement done, a set of slides complete, all in a weeks time. Spent the whole week on site, either responding to complaints, or dealing with rectification verification. And the remaining time writing report after report. Wanted to finish up some work today, but at 215, got buzzed by my email calendar reminding me that the next meeting was at 230. Got most of the work done afterwards anyway. And have 6 more reports to vet tomorrow, and more if the staff submit them either today or tomorrow morning. And have some appraisal interviews to deal with. I guess it's good to be busy. When you're busy, you really don't have the time to worry. And it feels good when things get finished too. :)

Feels that way these few days.

Like today, went to vicom to get the car inspected. Got a note from LTA asking me to make sure its inspected by end Dec or else. Had the popular mee sua at Bukit Batok market. Made it back home to rest a bit, then went to sing k at kbox. The klunch sucked big time, but haven't been to kbox for quite some time, so it didn't really matter. Got home and slept a bit. And then went to trade hub to have fish soup for dinner. Pumped petrol. Washed the clothes. And stared at the pc for some time. Then realise that the day is over and its 12+, but it wasn't really a fulfilling day. Like there is something I needed to do but didn't.

Am at the second episode of this anime. It's one of those idiot animes which is psychotic enough to make you wonder what you just watched.

We all went through times when we wished we didn't need to study, and could replace studies with ESBs or examination summon battles. Now we probably wish we could replace our work with ESBs. But either way, it's a good filler while waiting for the other animes to be subbed.

We were just finishing off work at one site, when my colleague drove the car away from the kerbside and into a private carpark lot. Bam! He drove so fast that the car hit the gate. We didn't check the condition of the car after that, but the gate seemed to be alright. The number plate of the car was dented though, when we got back to check. Reminds me of the time when I was at CSC carpark lot for an event, and I drove straight into a carpark lot and hit the wall. No damage on the bumper, but the number plate fell off. Well, that was from the previous car, so hopefully the number plate doesn't fall off the next owner's car!

Took the weekend off to go for a holiday. Destination: Ho Chin Minh. On a Friday afternoon, we made our way to the budget terminal to board on Tiger Airways to go to the proverbial land that Anthony Bourdain covets. And I have to admit, this trip was solely a food trip. And the name of the dish: Cha cha la vong.

Can't blame us for having a craving for this dish, it's so popular, even the restaurant is named after it. We had it in Hanoi once; the thick yellow oil, the condiments, multiple groups of people eating in the same restaurant sharing the same table eating the same dish. It was like we were family. We became part of the Vietnamese community, just pouring in the savoury oil into our belly without considering what it did to our arteries. We just had to try it again.

But sadly, this time, it was different. Ho Chin Minh, being THE city, was much more mordenised that it's counterparts. The thick yellow oil was cut to just a small coat on the fish, and where we mingled with locals and sat on wooden stools, we now had a whole table to ourselves. The fish tasted the same, but somehow, the gravy, condiments and overall feel was just different.

Oh well, instead of 3 days of Cha cha la vong as we had planned, we ended up trying out the more common dishes in Vietnamese cuisine... Like this Pho.

Tastes great with the onion soup which somehow reminded me of the mee soto at Rendang Corner. But being city kids with weak bowels, we skipped most of the squatting food. Like the restaurant, 'Trang', which we were searching high and low for, and found out that the squatting area in front of our hotel, which we decided from the start that we would never patronise, was indeed 'Trang'. And those stalls with aunties cookie Pho along the streets. Couldn't help noticing her removing a rock from under a table, and then taking noodles with the same hand to cook for the next customer.

And well, if you do wish to travel around and sight see, you'd probably be reminded a lot about the Vietnam War, or as the locals put it, the American War. City tours would land you in one of these war museums. And though I graphically screened off all the gory details (this being a PG blog and all), I couldn't help but feel like I was in another scene of Black Hawk Down.

Perhaps the adults and the early teens still have a problem letting go of the past. And mentions of Clinton's visit does little to help. But the kids sure have gotten over it.

These, by the way, are probably kids in school uniform. Or some army regime.

Enough of Vietnam food. We spent the night having Shabu Shabu at Gyu Jin. Nothing like nice thin slices of beef and some lemon soda. We tried our best to finish up the beef, and at the last piece, gave out a sigh of relief. The lady cleared the plate, marking our victory over the dish. And then returned with another full plate of beef.

And no, we didn't just eat for three and a half days. We went for a city tour, and a visit to the Chu Chi tunnels, with this picture as proof that I crawled the full length of the 100m tunnel. Even though this was the exit at the 1st 10m interval.

Ok, it wasn't supposed to be a stressful trip. And trips are about fun and enjoyment. Like this nice cup of Vietnamese Coffee.

Have to admit though, that this bowl of beef stew, which we had at a restaurant called Pao at Bui Vien St, was delightedly wonderful. With nice soft crusty bread and a stew made in heaven.

Yes, I do think I should cut down on watching foodie shows. Too much Bourdain and Sa Sa affects even the blog posts.

Nice movie. Something different for a change. Can't help but find the parts on which she first got to play in the orchestra with Chiaki, and when she smelled his clothes when he went missing just hilarious. Those of us who play the piano since young will remember the ruler on the knuckle, but not as bad as getting slapped though. But I still can't quite get the ending.

Been a bit tired lately, juggling work, deadlines, requests. Haven't had time to sit down and really think what I want or where I should be headed. I met someone that was leaving, that told me of what transpired between the time they decided and the time they left. It really was something I didn't really consider or couldn't really envision, probably right up till now. But different perspectives are always welcome. For me, its not about the work, or the boss, or the peers. It's all about the level of happiness. If you're in a place that you feel happy being in, nothing else matters much actually. It is when you're unhappy most of the time, that you start asking what is there in it for me. Salary? Money? Rank? Less work? We all have our plights and woes. But I guess I have reached another level of unhappiness that requires me to really think about what I want, or where I want to be. It's about nobody else. It's just me.

Nowadays, we get bored to the extent that anything that piques our interest becomes what we look forward to. We saw a snippet of the k-drama Princess's Man on a weekend, and it instantly became something which we continued to chase. Notwithstanding the overused plot of tyranny of the king - killing everyone in his path that threatens his throne, the urge u have to hit the judge right across the face everytime he betrays his friends, the though at the back of your mind, on how useless the hero is and why he can fight so well, yet does not kill off all his enemies one by one but hides behind other army troops that have sworn to be his cannon fodder, and the ever irritating heroine who brags that she will stop her father, but does nothing everytime except increase problems and becomes a burden, this show is actually quite nice.

I have to say, it really is pretty smart..

It turns out that Marilyn Monroe and Cindy Crawford's moles may be worth more than their aesthetic value alone: a study presented in November shows that people with moles age slower and can appear up to seven years younger than their peers.

A study conducted by researchers at Kings College London that was first published in the Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention Journal was presented last month to a group of doctors and scientists at the UK's Royal Society of Medicine Conference.

Scientists found that an abundance of beauty marks is correlated with stronger bones, firmer muscles, a healthier heart and eyes, fewer wrinkles, and even a nearly 50 percent reduction in the risk of osteoporosis. Scientists say the link stems from the fact that people with moles have longer telomeres -- the region of DNA found at the end of every chromosome that serves as a plastic cap to keep chromosomes from unraveling and mutating.

As humans age, their telomeres naturally shrink. Shortened telomeres are responsible for causing all types of conditions associated with aging including wrinkles, hair thinning, arthritis, weight gain and loss, high blood pressure, diabetes, vision and hearing loss.

But in spite of these results, preserving your telomere length has to do with more than just possessing beauty marks. Other factors such as a poor diet, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, obesity and psychological stress can also cause your telomeres to shorten faster than natural cell division alone. Meanwhile, exercising has been linked to longer telomeres.

Can't believe I got pulled to watch this. Ended up with only 3 groups of people in the whole cinema. Everyone else was in the next room watching The Thing... and there I was, in the other room watching "What's your number". Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against watching romantic comedies once in a while, but the concept of this movie alone, was a bit too sexist even for me. In the end, it wasn't too bad, but the only 2 memorable scenes I could remember was shockingly the part when the black president wannabe said that he was "not just gay", he was "very gay" (with the hand gestures all over), and the ending when she said "no 20" and he said "300 and..."

It was such a long week that Saturday was such a relief. We were expecting our new TV on a Saturday morning, a Samsung SMART TV that could connect to the internet.

It really isn't anything spectacular, we just needed a replacement for the old TV. But I was quite pleased that we could see youtube clips directly from the internet without needing to connect the TV to a PC. Plus I could plug my thumbdrive with a movie file to the TV without needing to put a cable and connect a speaker to the laptop to play a downloaded movie! Ok, I am probably low tech, and you guys probably have such TVs like that years ago, but it's all good.

Managed to call the aircond service man in the morning too, and guess what, he was available in the same morning because he was repairing someone elses aircond in another unit of my condo! It was like killing 2 birds with one morning. Only thing that bummed me was his marketing strategy. Servicing 5 fancoils with condensor costs $105. He told me 3 units needed chemical and plus 2 condensor servicing added with gas-ing and some other costs worked up to a one time cost of $810!! Lucky for me, if I opted for an annual package, it would've costed me $820 for a 3 monthly servicing package. Just $10 more than this one time servicing. &^%#@*&^$ Bloody thief. I kept my composure, and told him we would try our luck and just do with the normal servicing. Wonder if I was being too cautious or every aircond servicemen makes a living that way.

Went over to IKEA and finally got the console table. Couldn't find the magazine rack, but at least, we got one out of 2 of the targets done. Finally have a place to put the guest room TV on, and to place the PS3 and XBOX360.

Minus the steam crabs and the korean black noodles and the night time coffee at pacific coffee and coffee bean and the strawberry espresso and espresso milkshake in TCC, and watching Thor on the new TV, and walking Bukit Timah hill, I guess it's been a busy weekend.

Which leaves Caster and Lancer for the next episode.

Here I am again, at 209am typing on my blog. You normally do things like this when you can't sleep, and god, I just took a spoonful of cough mixture and guess what.. no effect..#@%$^$#. So, guess what. Since I took the effort to type this for your leisure (minus the fact that I am having insomnia), you should not complain that I wasted another 5 minutes (10 or maybe 20 for slower readers) of your life. Either way, you have time to kill, so just read whatever I type.
In just six months, I lost close friends, tea buddies, people to laugh and joke with, people who did things for me because they wanted to and not because it was part of their jobs. What I got in return, was a few peoples careers on my hand, a load of responsibility, a kind boss who has given me some trust, a phone that pains me once a month, tons of reports to clear, a lot more site work to do, and a fear of voicing my opinions, bearing that nobody would listen and things are driven like we were in the military. I used to feel that life was simpler, when frustrations often led to tea breaks, and company was somehow always available. But now, things are more focused. I know more what I am supposed to do. But lost the motivation to do anything more. I look around me once in a while, and I notice a lot of people with similar expressions as me. An expression of lethargy, tiredness and demotivation. Somehow, I just think that this could have something to do with a pandemic virus, rather than the fact that the entire organisation is unhappy. So, no one is appreciated for the work they do. So, anyone can be thrown around anytime, or put anywhere anytime, and not feel that they have been put in a bad position to start all over again, without nothing at all to support them. So bosses make empty promises all the time and can live with it. If people become demotivated, they can always leave, and we can always re-hire. But no one, just no one at all, realises that this is a sickness. One that cannot be cured just by replacing headcounts. Nothing will change, if things remain the way they were.
I just feel sad that I have not moved on. That I am one of the diseased, or perhaps even one of the terminal patients of this disease.

Gantz II: Perfect Answer

Can't believe how fast they have aired this online and got it subbed!! Watched this on anime-media.com. The second part is a follow up from the first, where Koruno Kei tries to save everyone by getting enough points through Gantz and to make things a little spicier, he falls in love with a suspect alien. Have to say that the Gantz movie series is really much much better than the anime (gave up on it as I mentioned the last time). If I say any more, it's gonna ruin the movie with spoilers. :)

Caverns of Moria

Part of the job requirements require us to put ourself in conditions of danger. This day, it felt like something from a D&D show, entering in to some dwarven mines. It wasn't Moria but being in a cave structure with rocks all over reminded me of the bat caves we went to. Only thing is, the conditions were much better when you're on a holiday watching bats, then when you are at some job required hazardous cavern trying to assess its condition. The smell of ammonia and the constant dripping of water added to the discomfort and a going-to-get-sick feeling. I was equipped with two 1-handed weapons, not scimitar and crossbow, but some meters. Ended up with a huge migraine, and some instruction on more work to come. But all in all, I guess having some detour from daily work is much more gratifying than staying in the office doing the routine work I do.

Epicurious - Rail Mall

Too lazy to go far, so we had lunch at Rail Mall. The food is ok, the angus beef noodle has quite a sour taste, with lemon grass and chives to go with steaks of beef. The burger is their trademark, and the portion was a little big, but ok.
A few students came in, to celebrate one of their friend's birthday. The guy was made to wear a red ribbon on his head, there was tons of giggling and they had hello kitty balloons for deco. Haha, really reminds me that I am no longer young. Nowadays, a hot cup of latte and some newspapers suit me better. :)

Antihistamine - medication for allergies, that causes drowsiness and helps on runny nose. I had 1/2 yesterday. Taking 1 today.

Blooies Ribs - A great rack marinated with BBQ sauce that is satisfactorily filling.

Ice Cream - Something you put in your mouth when you're feeling down
Kopi Ice Cream - Something you put in your mouth when u love coffee and am feeling down

Leadership book - Book teaching you how to not force people to respect you
Nice Leadership book - something someone leaving the department gives you

Been a long long time since I visited Wizards of the Coast website on MTG. So many new mechanics and the introduction of planeswalkers and commanders. And legendary and avatars are everywhere.
Couldn't help but wonder what kinda deck would be good.

Reanimation used to be my favourite, but it doesn't win games. It's just cool when you kick it off. But this card rocks for the deck.

And a planeswalker to thin your opponents deck? In 6 rounds, his 60 card deck would become nothing.

And for Avatar lovers, I saw Avatar of Fury and Avatar of Sorrow in 2 of the commander decks, and tons of new ones like this one.
